Caterpillar delivered a clear message at the recent high Horsepower Summit in Chicago - where the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a transportation fuel served as the focus. During the keynote address, Billy Ainsworth, Caterpillar vice president, and president and CEO of Progress Rail Services and its subsidiaries including ElectroMotive Diesel conveyed to a crowded room of attendees, "We're not sitting idle. We see natural gas as a reality, and it's here to stay."

Freightliner Trucks announced the availability of its DetroitTM Connect solutions for all new Freightliner Cascadia (R) truck models equipped with Cummins diesel and natural gas engines. Offered as a factory-installed option beginning Q1 2014, the Detroit Connect suite of telematics solutions which includes Visibility fleet software and the new On-Board Tablet provide the critical link between vehicles, drivers and fleet managers, enhancing uptime and performance.

Isuzu Commercial Truck of America announced that it will cover all scheduled maintenance for two years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first, on new Isuzu N-Series diesel trucks sold during the program period of 10/1/13-12/31/13. The 24/60 Covered Maintenance Program includes an initial "dry" inspection service at 4,000 miles, followed by six additional maintenance services beginning at 10,000 miles. "The 24/60 Covered Maintenance Program is simply the latest example of Isuzu's commitment to driving down the cost of operation for our owners," said Shaun Skinner, Isuzu Executive Vice President and General Manager.

Kenworth Truck Company announced that the all-new Kenworth T880 - the flagship of Kenworth's vocational trucks - is now available for order. The T880 is especially suited for vocational customers who demand a durable and reliable truck,  including dump, mixer, refuse, and heavy haul applications. "The Kenworth T880 offers truck operators and fleets a very comfortable work environment for drivers, lower operating cost and enhanced productivity," said Preston Feight, Kenworth assistant general manager for sales and marketing.

Mack Trucks announced that PITT OHIO is testing a natural gas-powered MACK (R) Pinnacle TM Axle Back model in its fleet, the first natural gas truck in the company's operations. "Mack is pleased that PITT OHIO is working with us to test natural gas technology in their fleet," said John Walsh, Mack vice president of marketing. "Our natural gas-powered Mack Pinnacle offers the same durability and reliability that customers equate with the Mack name, along with an environmental benefit and fuel savings for our customers."

Navistar, Inc. announced it secured nearly 5,900 Class 6-8 truck orders in September, making it the company's highest order receipt month since December 2011. The company's orders for the month include more than 2,100 medium-duty trucks with the Cummins ISB 6.7 liter engine. "September orders marked Navistar's highest monthly order intake for Class 6/7 vehicles in almost two years, which strengthens our belief that the ISB will be the catalyst for improving our medium-duty business," said Bill Kozek, Navistar president, North America Truck and Parts.

Peterbilt Motors Company showcased its new all-purpose vocational model 567 and several other vehicles during the 2013 International Construction & Utility Equipment Exposition (ICUEE) in Louisville, KY, October 1-3. The Model 567 is a great addition to Peterbilt's leading vocational product lineup, which show attendees experienced firsthand with the diverse selection of models on display.

Volvo Trucks expanded its XE - exceptional efficiency - powertrain package lineup with the introduction of the XE11 for its 11-liter Volvo D11 engine. Available on Volvo VNM and VNL models and rated up to 80,000 lbs GCWR, XE11 is ideal for less-than-truckload, distribution, bulk haul and other regional applications. The powertrain package improves fuel efficiency by up to 3 percent.

Western Star participated in the 2013 Owner-Operator Independent Association (OOIDA) Heart of America Trucking Show last October at the Kansas City Speedway. The aerodynamic and lightweight Western Star (R) 4900SB with Fuel Efficient (FE) package was on display. A demo model was also available for public ride and drive on both days of the show. Equipped with the efficient DetroitTM DD13 (R) engine (470 hp, 1650 lb-ft torque), the 4900SB with FE package delivers optimal fuel economy without sacrificing performance.
